«Development and Promotion of Accounting Education in Central Asia» Print

1rtOn 20th of March 2007 the USAID Accounting/Certified International Professional Accountant (A/CIPA) project (implement by the Pragma Corporation) conjointly with the «Education Network» Association carried out the round table «Development and Promotion of Accounting Education in Central Asia:3rt Cooperation of HEIs, Business, and Professional Organizations», on the base of the State residence «Ala-Archa-2».

The main objective of discussion was the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has involvement in accounting reform in Central Asia for the past ten years and that the initiatives in accounting reform form part of the wider assistance provided by USAID to support small and medium enterprise development in Central Asia.

In this regard, currently significant activity in the area of accounting education development is planned under the USAID Accounting/Certified International Professional Accountant (A/CIPA) project (implement by the Pragma Corporation), as well as under the activity of the Regional Education Network Association. This activity will benefit from involvement from all stakeholders, namely, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), private sector, and professional organizations.   

Wthin the frameworks of the round table the following issues were discussed: 7rt

  • New approaches to the development of accounting education content and involvement of businesses and professional organizations' in this process.
  • Problems and perspectives for introducing IFRS into the HEIs curriculum.
  • Presentation of the experience of Kyrgyz HEI's in introducing International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) in the education process.
  • Development of real channels for the cooperation of HEIs, businesses, and professional organizations in accounting and accounting profession development.

The round table was highly evaluated which evidenced by the number of 79 participants. Among the 79 there are 45 participants from the leading business companies and 34 participants from HEI's. The interest of Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, experts and officials of the leading business companies, professional associations and teaching organizations was obvious.
