FLEX Program for secondary school students, American Councils
American Councils is pleased to announce the continuation of the FLEX Program for secondary school students. Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) is fully funded by the U.S. government and is administered with the support of the Kyrgyz Ministry of Education. The program, now in its 16 th year, offers the opportunity for students to live in an American family and study in an American school of the 2008-2009 academic year for free. Participation in the competition is also free.
This year we are also pleased to announce that 9th, 10th, and 11th graders - who meet the following criteria are eligible to participate in the competition, may participate in the testing.
a.. Have Kyrgyz citizenship;
b.. Born between 1 January 1991 and 15 July 1993;
c.. Study English in secondary school and know English well;
d.. Meet the requirements for receiving a U.S. visa;
e.. Have not spent more than 3 months of the last five years in the U.S.
We also invite all high school students with disabilities to participate. (They must be born between 15 March 1990 and 15 July 1993.)
Peace Corps Volunteers are a vital resource of the first round of FLEX testing, announcing the exams to their students, helping proctor exams to ensure equality and eliminate cheating, and working crowd control at testing centers. Volunteers are encouraged to help notify their students to prepare:
a.. one recent photograph or passport photo 3 x 4 cm
b.. their birth certificate or passport
c.. a pen
The FLEX competition consists of 3 rounds: Round 1, a 15-minute test of English; Round 2, an English exam and essay (lasting approximately 3 hours); and Round 3, an application, essay and interview.
